Beautiful Lauren.

I know most of you had never met this person, but I need to write about her because whether you knew her or not, the world needs to know when someone amazing has left it.

We lost one of the most beautiful people I have ever met. Lauren Krikorian was in Honor's studio with me at Berkeley and she was tragically killed in a car accident this past weekend. The shock and tragedy is overwhelming. In the words of one of our fellow professor's, "At the center of her soul was a great human spirit, only just emerging."
She had an immense impact on everyone she came in contact with and her laughter consistently filled our hearts. Lauren, your spirit will continue to shine on this earth even though your body is gone.

Goodbye dear friend. We miss you.

  1. Lauren and I became very close over the past year. And in just the past few weeks we had gone to the movies and been sightseeing at Point Reyes.

She was the most wonderful, effervescent, warm-hearted person I have ever known. This is an indescribable tragedy. I cannot bear the thought of the world without Lauren in it.

Thank you so much for posting the photos, although it is very hard for me to look at them right now. I want to step inside of them and talk to her and give her a hug and tell her that everything is going to be okay. She was such a wonderful person! How could this ever have happened?

I will cherish our friendship forever.

  3. Thank you very much for this post. For me personally it's a source of comfort to know that she had such an impact on everyone she encountered.

It's also a source of comfort to think about continuing her legacy by making a donation in her honor to a cause that she felt passionately about, and I was wondering if you had suggestions or if you could put me in contact with the faculty member who spoke so eloquently about Lauren.

Thanks so much for your thoughts and your words.

  6. Meredith... I am so so so very sorry to hear about Lauren.
I was actually just speaking about her this week... remembering the thought she put behind her installation regarding eavesdropping. I remember admiring the transparency it takes to read one's own diary, as it was written... aloud. And the painstaking hours she spent staring at her white wall, debating the messages she was sending with the subtle changes she would make. I felt by watching her do that project, I learned a lot about the kind of person she was: a thoughtful, intentional person who strove for greatness in everything she attempted. my heart hurts for you, mer... i'm so sorry.

  13. Lauren was more legit than 99% of people I have ever met, and it makes me so angry that this happened. I want to do everything in my power to live life to the fullest, love my friends, and shine as brightly as she did.
